Emily Hanigan (b. 1987, Boise, ID) is an artist based in Idaho. Her paintings explore themes of home, belonging, and our connection to the natural world.

Hanigan creates acrylic, mixed media, and collage paintings on canvas, wood, and paper. Working in her home studio, she lets the mood of the moment guide each mark made. Often creating several layers within one piece, she gives herself the freedom to explore questions related to home, belonging, and the natural world. She invites the viewer to stay curious as they step into her inner world, encouraging them to explore their own and let their imagination take them wherever they need to be in that moment.

Biography

Emily Hanigan received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Secondary Arts Education in 2011 from Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, where she studied photography, art education, and painting. Hanigan worked as a Photojournalist for The Oregon Coast Today in 2008, and was a member of Swell Artist Collective in Boise, Idaho from 2017-2020.

Hanigan won two photography awards through the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association (ONPA) for her work at The Oregon Coast Today in 2008, and in 2017 won an award through Studio Boise Photography Center for her piece titled City of Geese.
